The 24-year-old mother was found fatally wounded while resting in bed alongside her husband and infant child on Sunday morning. Her passing has left her loved ones devastated, with her sister describing the loss as incomprehensible.

Gursharan, Kirandeep’s 21-year-old sibling, shared her profound grief through a translator from the Majha region of Punjab, India. Speaking to BBC London, she expressed how central her sister had been to their lives. “She is everything for me, she video calls me and my mum. What are we going to do without her?”

The family now faces the painful reality of life without Kirandeep, who had recently relocated to London seeking improved opportunities. A man has been formally charged in connection with her death.

Journey from Punjab to London

Kirandeep’s path to London began in September 2024 when she arrived in the UK to pursue education at Buckinghamshire New University. Her motivation was clear: to secure better employment that would allow her to provide for her family back home in India.

After completing her academic program, she took up work at a local grocery store. Despite maintaining regular phone contact with her family, she had not returned to India since her departure. When she first arrived in London, she described the city as beautiful and expressed genuine happiness about her new life.

Gursharan remembered her sister as exceptionally bright and diligent. “She was the top of her class here in India when she was studying, she’s a very hard worker. She loved us all very much,” she explained.

Family Ties and Financial Support

Coming from a modest background, Kirandeep consistently prioritized her family’s needs above her own. “Our family is very poor. She always thinks about us first. She was very supportive to me. She was my world. My heart hurts,” Gursharan shared emotionally.

Kirandeep leaves behind not only her husband and baby but also her parents and three siblings. The family resides in Tarn Taran, a significant city and district headquarters within Punjab’s Majha region, situated approximately 13 miles or 22 kilometers south of Amritsar.

Gursharan learned of the tragedy through a villager and admitted she still possesses limited details regarding the circumstances. “I am not coping well, I cannot handle this news. My parents are devastated,” she revealed.

She described her family composition: “We are four siblings, there is my older brother, then Kirandeep, then two younger siblings. I am the youngest sister.” Her mother has been particularly affected, while her father’s health has also deteriorated following the news.

Justice and Remembrance

The Sikh community in the local area organized memorial gatherings on Friday and Saturday to honor Kirandeep’s memory. Gursharan expressed gratitude for the community’s support: “We are grateful to the people in London who are coming to the gatherings and vigils in London for my sister.”

The family has requested that Kirandeep’s remains be transported back to India for burial. “I haven’t seen her since she left in 2024. I want her to come home so I can see her one last time. My parents want to see her one last time. I want the funeral to take place in our village in India.”

Legal proceedings have commenced against the accused. Daniel Sean James, aged 46, faces charges of murder, attempted murder, and possession of a blade. According to reports, he allegedly attacked Kirandeep in her Hayes home on Uxbridge Road during the early hours of Sunday, July 12, before leaping from a window and fracturing both ankles. He was subsequently apprehended by officers in the vicinity.

James appeared at the Old Bailey via videolink from Wormwood Scrubs on Thursday. Judge Nigel Lickley KC scheduled a plea hearing for October 1 and ordered that James remain in custody pending further proceedings.
