Prosecutors Detail Brutal Hammer Attack on Ann Widdecombe

Camera Captures Fatal Assault

Procurators have revealed that Ann Widdecombe suffered twenty-one hammer strikes to her head during a violent home invasion that was recorded on surveillance footage. The former politician was discovered deceased at her residence in Haytor, Devon, following the incident which occurred while she was consuming lunch.

The assault took place in the kitchen area where Kerry allegedly struck Widdecombe repeatedly with a hammer. Following the blows, he tipped her from her chair and removed her wallet before leaving the scene in his vehicle. The 28-year-old defendant, originally from South Yorkshire, subsequently appeared before the Old Bailey where he was remanded into custody.

Prosecutors Describe “Ferocity of Violence”

Alistair Richardson, another prosecutor at the Old Bailey, characterized the assault as being carried out with what he described as a “ferocity of violence.” The timing of the attack was established through evidence that Widdecombe failed to attend a scheduled online interview with Matt Allwright for Channel 5’s program. The interview was set for shortly before one o’clock in the afternoon on July 8th.

The production team attempted to reach Widdecombe through her personal assistant. When no response came, the assistant contacted the gardener to verify her wellbeing.

The gardener entered the house via the open front door on the ninth of July and found Widdecombe lying face down on her kitchen floor with a serious head injury.

Security Footage and Investigation

Kashif Malik informed the chief magistrate that security camera recordings from the Haytor property demonstrated the fatal attack occurred on the day prior to the discovery. Police investigators are currently examining whether terrorism links or political motivations may have driven the assault. Kerry, who hails from Rotherham, faced one count of murder following an investigation conducted by counter-terrorism detectives.

During the brief hearing at Westminster Magistrates’ Court, Kerry appeared without emotion and responded only when asked to confirm his name, date of birth, and residential address. The court was not asked whether he intended to enter a plea. On Tuesday, he made another appearance at the Old Bailey and is anticipated to be remanded at HMP Belmarsh in south-east London.

Medical Findings and Court Schedule

A pathologist provided a provisional cause of death as a blunt force injury to the head. An earlier inquest session, which opened and adjourned on Tuesday, received evidence that emergency services responded on the day Widdecombe was discovered. She was pronounced deceased at twelve twenty in the afternoon. The hearing also learned that while a post-mortem examination had been completed, the precise medical cause of death remains to be determined at this stage.

Kerry’s next court appearance is scheduled for the ninth of October for a case management hearing. A provisional trial date has been set for the eighth of June 2027.

Widdecombe’s political career spanned several decades. She served as the Conservative Member of Parliament for Maidstone in Kent for twenty-three years and held ministerial positions within Sir John Major’s administration during the nineteen nineties.
