Man arrested after baby girl dies from dog bite

Man Arrested Following Infant’s Fatal Dog Bite

Police Respond to Tragic Incident in Redcar

A 45-year-old man was taken into custody following the death of a three-month-old girl in a suspected dog attack in Redcar, according to Cleveland Police. The incident occurred shortly after 13:30 BST on Thursday when armed officers were dispatched to Hardale Grove, Dormanstown, due to concerns about a child’s safety.

Upon arrival, police reportedly euthanized two dogs—one on the street and another at the residence. The man was arrested on suspicion of allowing a dog to act dangerously out of control, leading to a fatality. He has since been released on conditional bail. The authorities believe the infant succumbed to injuries caused by a dog bite. A 31-year-old woman was also bitten on her arm and received medical attention at a hospital.

Investigation Continues with Privacy Requests

Both canines were examined by a specialist officer, who stated they were not identified as a restricted breed. Flowers and a Winnie the Pooh plush toy were left at the scene by onlookers.

“We remain committed to supporting the child’s family during this challenging period,” said Ch Supt Rachel Stockdale, head of local policing. “Please ensure their privacy is upheld as the inquiry progresses.”

Police have maintained a visible presence at the address to monitor the situation. They are urging anyone with evidence, such as video footage, to share details with the investigation.

Call for Public Assistance

The force emphasized the importance of community input, inviting witnesses or individuals with relevant information to contact them. Updates on the case will be shared as further developments occur.
