Savannah Guthrie says family is ‘in agony’ in first interview since her mother’s disappearance
Savannah Guthrie Talks Emotional Toll in Mother’s Disappearance
Savannah Guthrie, a co-host on the TODAY show, has shared her family’s emotional struggle in an interview with Hoda Kotb. The conversation, previewed Wednesday, highlights the intense feelings of despair that have lingered for over seven weeks since Nancy Guthrie vanished from her home in Arizona. “We’re in unbearable agony, and someone must do the right thing,” she said, her voice trembling as she described the situation.
“Every night, I wake up in the middle of the dark and imagine her terror. It’s unthinkable, but those thoughts demand to be thought. I won’t hide my face,” Guthrie added, emphasizing her resolve to keep searching.
Nancy Guthrie, 84, was last seen on January 31 near her Tucson-area home after having dinner at her daughter Annie’s residence. Her family reported her missing on February 1 following her absence from a virtual church service at a friend’s house. The emotional weight of the case has grown heavier as time passes, with no significant clues emerging.
As part of their efforts, the Guthrie family posted a heartfelt plea on Instagram, urging anyone with information to come forward. “We are ready to talk,” they said, thanking the public for their prayers. “We feel them, and we believe she feels them, too,” the siblings added. Meanwhile, authorities have released footage of a suspect, a masked and armed figure seen tampering with a security camera at the family’s home.
The FBI is focusing on a male suspect who is between 5 feet 9 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall, with an average build. The suspect was captured on a doorbell camera that disconnected at 1:47 a.m. on February 1, according to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department. Forensic analysis has found Nancy Guthrie’s blood on her home’s porch, prompting investigators to consider genetic genealogy to identify unknown DNA from inside the house.
Guthrie’s family has offered a $1 million reward for Nancy’s safe return, while the FBI has also pledged $50,000 for tips leading to her recovery or the arrest of those involved. Despite the emotional strain, Savannah Guthrie expressed her intention to return to the TODAY show. “She remains focused on supporting her family and bringing Nancy home,” a spokesperson noted, confirming her plans to resume her role.
