EDEN CONFIDENTIAL: Diana’s Wedding Gown Designer Faces Financial Collapse
In 1981, during her nuptials to Prince Charles at St Paul’s Cathedral, Lady Diana Spencer captivated global audiences with the ivory silk taffeta and lace bridal gown crafted by David Emanuel and his wife, Elizabeth. An estimated 750 million viewers worldwide watched the event on television.
Despite the iconic status of the gown, which featured a 25-foot train, David Emanuel has struggled to maintain financial stability. Both of his enterprises—Licensed to Design, launched in 2002, and Renaissance Man, established in 2018—have collapsed, leaving debts totaling nearly £300,000.
Newly filed documents reveal that Licensed to Design owes £280,000, while Renaissance Man carries £280,443 in liabilities. David reports assets worth £164,000 as ‘uncertain to recover,’ including fixtures and fittings valued at £96,000 and directors’ loans of £60,000. His obligations include £72,000 in corporation tax debt to HMRC, £103,000 to NatWest Bank, and £33,000 to Ovo Energy.
“Both of us are more stressed than excited because we lost our last pregnancy,” admits Grace Beverley, who was head chorister at Salisbury Cathedral. “The excitement mixed with the anxiety of knowing you can’t go through that pain again so soon.”
David, who previously faced financial troubles following his divorce from Elizabeth, has disclosed these liabilities to liquidators. He also lost a High Court case against Elizabeth in 2024, where he claimed she infringed his copyright by reproducing their collaborative designs without his consent. His spokesperson stated he could not be reached for comment.
