Dog Owner Claims Groomer Sliced Pet’s Nipple and Superglued It Back Together

Dog owner claims groomer sliced pet s – A dog owner claims groomer sliced her pet’s nipple and repaired it with superglue, sparking concerns about the safety of unregulated grooming services. Tegan Williams, a 20-year-old woman from Fochriw, shared her distressing experience after a visit to Scruffy 2 Fluffy, a grooming business in Bargoed, Caerphilly county. The incident occurred on 15 June, during her fourth appointment at the establishment. However, it wasn’t until she returned home that the issue became apparent, leaving her questioning the care her two-year-old toy poodle and bichon frisé cross, Honey, had received.

The Unusual Injury

Upon bringing Honey back into the living room, Tegan noticed signs of distress. Blood in the dog’s right eye and a cut on the back of her right leg were initially attributed to possible trauma. But what truly alarmed her was the unusually hard nipple that caused sensitivity when touched. “When they left, I brought her back out to be in the living room as she normally is,” Tegan said. “And I noticed that she had blood in her right eye.”

“When I examined more of her body, I noticed that she had a cut on the back of her right leg,”

Tegan described the injury as highly unusual, given that Honey had been well-maintained prior to the grooming session. She had brushed the dog that morning and on a regular basis, so the matted condition observed during the visit surprised her. “She was a regular client at Scruffy 2 Fluffy,” she added. “That was her fourth groom since she was a puppy. There’s never been any issues at all.”

Superglue and the Aftermath

The incident took a serious turn when Tegan discovered the superglue used to repair the damaged nipple. A £385 emergency vet visit revealed that the adhesive had been applied to the wound, making it difficult to assess the full damage. “They didn’t really want to touch the wound, only because it was superglued on so much that, if they had a look, she would be really sore,” Tegan recalled. The vet also noted that the wound was leaking, raising fears of infection. She emphasized the emotional toll of the event, as the dog remained nervous and withdrawn in the days following the injury.

Paul Smith, owner of Scruffy 2 Fluffy, acknowledged the incident as an accident and stated that he had taken immediate action. “The issue was brought up to me the next day and I immediately acted,” he said. Tegan, however, felt the response was insufficient. “I was so upset, I was panicking, I was scared,” she recounted. “I felt guilty because I chose for her to go to this particular groomer.”

Paul explained that the grooming tables at his business were rented out to other professionals, and he only learned about the injuries after Tegan complained. “I paid for the vet straight away without question, because I don’t feel that they should have been in that position,” he stated. While he apologized to Tegan and her partner, he claimed the groomer had been too embarrassed to address the incident directly. “It was an accident, and it happened. That [groomer] didn’t go out of [their] way to do anything,” he added.

Financial and Emotional Impact

The incident not only caused emotional distress but also financial strain for Tegan. She had to draw from a savings fund meant for rent and her daughter’s upcoming third birthday to cover the vet costs. “I couldn’t imagine another pet owner having to go through the same thing,” she said, highlighting her determination to share her story. The vet’s diagnosis indicated Honey would need £1,500 in minor soft tissue surgery to fully recover, with Tegan worried about the superglue potentially leading to complications.

Tegan’s experience has prompted her to report the incident to Caerphilly council’s Trading Standards, which confirmed awareness of the allegations and is currently investigating. She emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in the dog grooming industry, noting how she described the situation to her children. “They are under five, so I had to try and say it in a way that wouldn’t scare them,” Tegan said. Her goal is to warn other pet owners about the risks of leaving their dogs in unregulated care.
