Principal Confronts Active Shooter at Oklahoma School
CCTV footage captures a high school principal engaging an active shooter at Pauls Valley High School in Oklahoma. The suspect, Victor Hawkins, entered the school on 7 April and began firing shots. Principal Kirk Moore then charges toward the former student, seizing him in a tackle, while a fellow staff member steps in to disarm the attacker. Moore sustained a leg injury during the confrontation but was released from the hospital after treatment. Hawkins was apprehended on the scene and now faces charges including two counts of pointing a firearm, one of shooting with intent to kill, and two of unlawful carrying.
Artemis II Crew Sets New Space Milestone
The Artemis II astronauts, aboard the Orion spacecraft, have broken the previous Earth distance record set by Apollo 13 in 1970, reaching 248,655 miles (400,171 km) from the planet. Upon reestablishing communication, astronaut Christina Koch remarked:
“It is so great to hear from Earth again.”
The crew, who are on the third day of their lunar orbit mission, are navigating the far side of the Moon. Commander Reid Wiseman’s wife passed away from cancer in 2020 at age 46, though the mission itself does not include a lunar landing. NASA is preparing for such a mission by 2028, but this current trip focuses on orbital tests and deep-space exploration.
