Eamonn Holmes ‘doing OK’ after stroke, his son says

Eamonn Holmes, the 66-year-old GB News presenter, is reported to be in stable condition following a recent stroke, according to his son Declan. Declan emphasized that the family is progressing “one step at a time” and prioritizing “stability in their routine” during this period. The news channel confirmed on Saturday that Holmes was hospitalized after his illness last week, noting he “is responding positively to treatment.”

“We’d really value a bit of privacy as we navigate it, and what lies ahead, but thank you again for the support as it means so much to dad and the rest of the family,” Declan shared in a message posted on Instagram.

Alongside the quote, an image of Declan with his arm around his father’s shoulder accompanied the post. The channel’s chief executive, Angelos Frangopoulos, described Holmes as a “loved member of the GB News family” and stated the team is “supporting him every step of the way as he recovers.”

Longstanding Career and Health Challenges

A seasoned broadcaster, Holmes joined GB News in 2022 to host its morning show. Prior to that, he was a fixture on Sky News and ITV, including a stint on ITV’s This Morning, where he partnered with Ruth Langsford. The couple married in 2010 but announced their separation in 2024, with a spokesperson confirming “their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing.”

Declan also highlighted Holmes’s history of health issues, such as spinal surgery and a double hip replacement. These conditions, along with difficulties in mobility, have been part of his life, though he has continued to thrive in his professional roles.

Understanding Strokes

A stroke happens when blood flow to a part of the brain is interrupted, as outlined by NHS guidance. Symptoms may include facial drooping, arm weakness, and speech impairments. Holmes’s recent health event aligns with these characteristics, though his current status remains reassuring.
