‘My daughter, 14, was groomed after meeting man on Roblox’

Roblox Grooming Case Sparks Parental Concern

A 14-year-old girl’s mother expressed frustration over the online gaming platform Roblox failing to shield her child from a predator. Carlo Tritta, a 19-year-old from Eastleigh, Hampshire, targeted the teenager in September 2024, initially appearing as a 18-year-old on the platform. The victim’s mother, based in Greater Manchester, described her devastation after discovering her daughter had shared intimate photos with Tritta, who manipulated her into believing they were in a romantic relationship.

From Chat to Control

According to the mother, her daughter first interacted with Tritta on Roblox through casual conversation. “She’d been chatting with this person for a while, nothing suspicious at first,” she said. Tritta later encouraged her to move their chats to private messaging apps, claiming affection and offering gifts, including a secret phone. The mother recalled her daughter’s emotional state: “She was crying and begging me not to look at her phone. I just knew then something was wrong.”

“I was shocked, bewildered, and really angry. Not at my daughter, but at the situation. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing—my child’s images and videos.”

The abuse escalated as Tritta gained access to her daughter’s social media accounts. He monitored her routines, knew her friends, and controlled her online interactions. “He had passwords for everything,” the mother said. “She felt trapped, like she couldn’t escape.”

Tritta was arrested and released on bail with strict conditions, but he violated them by traveling 200 miles from Hampshire to the victim’s home. He damaged the doorbell camera and entered the house, where he discussed “nightmares” with the mother while she and her daughter were making Christmas cards. “He even sent her two cards asking her not to support the prosecution,” the mother added.

Roblox’s Response

A Roblox spokesperson acknowledged the case, stating: “With over 144 million daily active users, harm is rare, but we take every incident seriously. Our system is designed to limit communication to similar-aged users and those already known.” However, the mother argued that the platform needed stronger protections. “It’s a kids’ game, but adults are using it to groom children,” she said. “That’s not right.”

“It needs to be watched. If more parents were aware, they might prevent this from happening.”

Roblox, which hosts 40 million user-generated games, was criticized for its role in the incident. The victim’s mother emphasized the emotional toll on her daughter, who struggled with sleep and suicidal thoughts. “She felt powerless, like no one could help her,” she said. “This is why I want to warn others—children are vulnerable online, and platforms must act faster to protect them.”

Tritta was sentenced to two years and four months for distributing indecent images, engaging in sexual communications, and causing his victim to watch explicit content. He also admitted intimidating a witness and damaging property. The case has prompted calls for stricter safeguards on platforms where children interact with strangers.
