British Airways stopping flights to war torn Middle East country until later this year
British Airways Halts Flights to Middle Eastern Conflict Zones Amid Ongoing Uncertainty
British Airways has announced the suspension of all flights to multiple Middle Eastern destinations as tensions escalate following the Iran conflict. The decision affects routes to key cities including Amman, Bahrain, Doha, Dubai, and Tel Aviv, with cancellations scheduled for the remainder of the month.
Flight Schedule Adjustments and Rescue Operations
In a statement today, the airline explained that the revised schedule stems from ‘continuing uncertainty’ and ‘airspace instability’ in the region. It also mentioned the suspension of daily rescue flights from Muscat after Thursday, attributed to a drop in demand.
‘We’re keeping the situation under constant review and are in touch with our customers to offer them a range of options,’ the statement added.
Further clarification emphasized that efforts are being made to assist passengers remaining in the United Arab Emirates, providing alternatives for travel to the UK.
Scam Alert for Travelers
British Airways warned customers of phishing attempts, with fraudulent accounts impersonating the airline appearing on platforms like X. Scammers have been targeting users by requesting personal details and payment information.
‘…We’re in touch with customers who we believe continue to be in [United Arab Emirates] to support them and provide options for travel to the UK,’ the airline noted.
Passengers were advised to message the airline with their name, email, mobile number, and home address to confirm their status. One user shared evidence of fake Qatar Airways representatives organizing non-existent rescue flights, highlighting the urgency of verifying updates through official channels.
Regional Airspace Impact
As a result of the US and Israel-led attack on Iran, Middle Eastern countries have closed a critical airspace corridor, forcing airlines to cancel thousands of flights or reroute them. These airports, which serve as vital international connection hubs, are now facing significant disruptions.
